Arap Mosque

First mentioned in historical Ottoman defters (records) in 1528, the mosque has witnessed the rise, fall, and continuous rebirth of the city for nearly five centuries.

Instead of the standard domed stone construction, it is characterized by its rectangular masonry base, timber-frame roof construction, and a rare, exquisitely crafted **wooden minaret**. Throughout its history, the mosque suffered multiple destructions during wars and great city fires, most notably in 1689. Each time, it was lovingly rebuilt by the citizens, merchants, and craft guilds of the bazaar, reflecting the enduring local identity. The interior contains a quiet, light-filled prayer space with traditional wooden ceilings and simple geometric decorations, offering visitors a serene escape from the bustling cobblestone streets outside.
