Pešter Plateau
Pešter is one of the highest and largest karst plateaus in the Balkans, a vast open landscape of grassland, wetland and scattered highland villages southwest of Novi Pazar.
Why it matters
Cold, clear and sparsely populated, it is famous for its meadows, its traditional dairy and cheese, and its enormous skies. A protected area of real ecological value, it feels like the roof of the region.
