Arap Mosque
The Arap (“Arab”) Mosque is one of the historic neighbourhood mosques woven through the old town, each the centre of its mahala — the traditional Ottoman quarter.
Why it matters
Smaller and quieter than the Altun-Alem, mosques like this show how faith organised daily life across the city, a minaret marking each community. Together they give the old town its distinctive skyline.
Essentials
- An active mosque — dress modestly
- Visit outside prayer times
- Look for the neighbourhood fountain nearby
- One stop on the old-town walk
