Golija Mountain
Golija is a horseshoe of forested ridges rising to Jankov Kamen at 1,833 m, and the core of the Golija-Studenica Biosphere Reserve — the first UNESCO Man-and-Biosphere reserve in Serbia, designated in 2001.
Why it matters
Its old spruce and beech forests, springs and meadows shelter more than a thousand plant species and rare wildlife including bears and wolves. It is the region's great mountain wilderness.
