Amir-Agin Han, Novi Pazar

Amir-Agin Han

A han was the inn of the Ottoman road — lodging for merchants and their animals around a courtyard. The Amir-Agin Han recalls the age when Novi Pazar, the “new bazaar,” lived by long-distance trade.

Why it matters

Standing among the shops of the old town, it is a reminder that this was a caravan city on the route between the Adriatic coast and the interior of the Balkans, where goods, languages and faiths met.

Essentials

  • Part of the old-town walking route
  • Best seen with the bazaar and hamam
  • Ask your guide about the caravan trade
  • Ground floor shops still in use
