Đurđevi Stupovi
Perched on a hill overlooking the city, the monastery of St George — Đurđevi Stupovi, the “pillars of St George” — was founded by Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja and completed in 1170/71.
Why it matters
Its church is the earliest surviving work of the Raška school, the blend of Romanesque and Byzantine that would shape Serbian architecture for a century and a half. It belongs to the Stari Ras and Sopoćani UNESCO site inscribed in 1979, and the climb rewards you with the widest view over Novi Pazar.
Essentials
